About the Digestive System

stomach.jpg

The digestive system is responsible for ingesting the food that we eat. In the ingestion process, the digestive system focuses on separating the nutrients that the body needs to support itself. Once separated, these nutrients are absorbed, and what ever is left is indigestible and considered waste, which the body expels.

There are several organs, muscles and glands involved within the digestive system, all of which have its own individual process that is vital to our body's homeostasis. These parts include the pharynx, mouth,, salivary glands, esophagus, diaphragm, stomach, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine, and the anus.
